Bay Area Ridge Trail

Bay Area Ridge Trail

More than 400 miles of Bay Area Ridge Trail, which eventually will stretch 550-plus miles around the Bay Area, are open for dogs and their people, equestrians and cyclists.

Starting at the Golden Gate Bridge and proceeding clockwise, the current and planned alignment of the Ridge Trail takes it through every Bay Area county: Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, and San Francisco counties.

A 2.5-mile trail segment of it goes through the Presdio in San Francisco and is a beautiful part of the trail. Starting from the Arguello Gate, the trail winds around the northern end of the Presidio Golf Course, passes by three scenic overlooks, and numerous points of interest.

There are many points of entry throughout the trail. Permits are required on some segments, and some segments you’ll need to cross with your dog in a vehicle (i.e. the Golden Gate Bridge). The Bay Ridge Trail website has maps, details and updates on new segments of the trail.
